Washington: The Oscar Awards has never been an important event for Pakistan since its citizen Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been nominated for her appealing documentary based on violence against woman.
Saving Faces, a 52-minute
documentary, directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Daniel Jung has been
shortlisted as one of only eight documentaries from across the globe for
the Best Documentary, Short Subject as announced by the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
The film chronicling the work of a
British Pakistani plastic surgeon, Dr Mohammad Jawad focuses on his work
to perform reconstructive surgery on women who have been victims of
acid throwing.
It was filmed entirely in Pakistan in the Seraiki belt as well as in Rawalpindi, Karachi, Islamabad and its outskirts.
Saving Face not only showcases the
plight of hundreds of women across Pakistan who fall victim to acid
violence each year, but it brings hope how the incidents were opposed in
the Pakistani society and caused to transform into legislation after
parliament passed a bill on domestic violence.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is an
Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker who has worked on 14 films for
major networks in the United States and Britain, including CNN, PBS,
Channel 4 (U.K.) CBC, Arte and the Discovery channel.
Amongst other honors, her work has
earned her an International Emmy Award in the Current Affairs category,
The Alfred I. Dupont Award, The Livingston Award, The Overseas Press
Club Award, The American Women in Radio and Television Award, The One
World Media Award, and the Banff TV Rockie Award.
All eyes on Oscar Awards’ ceremony as
people love watching a fellow Pakistan gaining fame and reputation on
Red Carpet of the biggest recognition event of the world today.
Today we do wish that the first
Pakistani will receive an Oscar Award in front of 40 million audience at
Hollywood and Highland Center. Good Luck Sharmeen!.
