Occasion has no divisions to mark its means of access; there is never a cloudburst or boom of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins it is only we mortals who ring chimes. This is not the first New Year. Nor is it the last! Then why do we celebrate New Years as if the world is about to end? A New Year is just another day. But for an optimist, New Years indication the birth of hope. So fill your heart with joy, I will inquire about modishness rather than lavishness, modification rather than fashion. I will inquire about to be admirable more than highly regarded, wealthy and not rich. I will listen to stars and birds, and sages, with an open heart. I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await occasions and hurry never. In a word I will let the religious, unbidden and down for the count grow up through the common. Let this upcoming year be enhanced than all the others. Be determined to do some of the things you’ve for eternity sought after to do but couldn’t find the occasion. Call up a forgotten buddy. Drop an old chip on your shoulder, and put back it with some pleasant memories. Give your word not to make a promise you don’t think you can keep. Walk high, and smile more. Don’t be anxious to say, ‘I love you’. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world. Wish you a very happy new year now & always.
